The 2001 Annual Technical Session and Meeting was held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from May 9 - 12, 2001. The conference was the first to be held in conjunction with AISC's North American Steel Construction Conference. In spite of the concern that SSRC would lose its small group identity during such a large gathering, the combined conference turned out to be a success for both SSRC and AISC members. SSRC was able to gain the recognition of a larger audience and the members were able to attend other talks and exhibits, while AISC was able to provide its members access to SSRC's more scholarly presentations. Thanks go out to Mr. Nestor Iwankiw who worked to bring the joint conference to reality and also to AISC's staff, who were extremely helpful in making sure all of SSRC's needs were met.
During the SSRC reception, Dr. Andrea Maleck of Georgia Tech was presented with the 2001 Sarada M. and Raju A. Vinnakota Award for her paper written with Prof. Donald White titled "A Modified Elastic Approach for Design of Steel Building Frames". Andrea's paper was one of seven excellent submissions for the Award, which SSRC is graciously able to present thanks to Prof. Ramulu Vinnakota.
Conference Proceedings are now available to purchase online.
